EF Battle Histories by Jim Watt

These documents summarize the historical actions in the Crimea, in the Ukraine and other places and fit East Front scenarios during these campaigns into their historical context. Very useful if one has ever wondered about the 'big picture' surrounding a particular scenario.

[Jim has added more, and again a/o 26 Aug 01]

EF II v1.00b Database!

This is EF II 1.00b's unit and weapons data in an MS 'Excel 5.0/97' spreadsheet. The 'sort' worksheet is specifically designed to be sorted as you choose.

East Front II v1.00b Unit Display by Ioannis Kalafatis

This is an MS 'Access 97' database of EF II v1.00b. It draws on all the infomation available in the new spreadsheet (above) but actually allows the user to filter by date, country, side and unit class. It also shows both the 3D unit picture and the photograph. Check out the MAUS!!! A must have!

(Notes: This file can be loaded in any directory, it works best if the EF cd is in the cd rom drive - to show the photographs - and if it can't find any data it is likely that your registry points to the wrong directory).

East Front II Scenario Data Spreadsheet

EF/WF Scenario Designer and Playtester Bill Burch has updated this key resource to include EF II data. It also now incorporates data spun off by the "Briefing Sheets" program such as ground conditions, scenario description and type of battle. This is a VERY useful tool for chosing scenarios toplay.

updated.gif (1350 bytes) East Front II "Briefing Sheets"

This zipfile contains 'briefing sheets' (one for each side) for every EF 2 scenario. A briefing sheet consists of one page of 'conditions' (eg scenario description, visibility, supply level, scenario length, etc), one section of the friendly OOB (only units actually appearing in the scenario, not the entire *.org file), one section of friendly forces and capabilities (eg which and how many of each platoon type, basic combat data for those platoons, etc) and one section on possible enemy forces and capabilities (ie roughly the same as the previous section except that it contains only platoons available in that time period to the enemy countries in question). It uses full FOW so reading the 'briefing' for the side you are playing will not give away any secrets! It is in the simplest *.doc format and should be readable by any word/wordpad version (or rename it as *.txt but lose the page breaks).

(Note: These files are free standing so they can be unzipped anywhere. I'd suggest making a subdirectory under WF called "Briefings".)

[Update: I've fixed a small bug in the program that ignored nine USSR platoon types - all light tanks and tankettes.]

EF 1.00b Patch Workaround

Disclaimer: A) This is NOT a TS made fix. B) If it is used, it is at your own risk. C) Notwithstanding all of the above, it's a pretty simple thing and I've confirmed that it works.

The problem: On a small minority of computers the EF_100b.exe patch fails while trying to delete the mfc42.dll file. It would appear that the cause is that the mfc42.dll file is 'locked' by a different application. Since the patch is unable to finish, some files are left unpatched. There is no way to run the patch beyond the mfc42.dll failure.

The Fix: The EF 1.00b patch checks to see if the files it is patching is a version they recognize. If it recognizes them (including if the files are the same as the ones in the patch) it patches them. If not, it fails. So do this: make sure your EF directory contains any combination of v1.00b or earlier files (ie a partial/failed install of v1.00b is fine). Unzip the above file into your EF directory. Run the v1.00b patch from TS. It should install fine now!

EF v1.08 Concealment terrain/Info by Glenn Saunders

Several pages (in word 97 and word 95 format) detailing the new TEM and terrain concealment modifiers in EF v1.08. Very useful.

East Front/West Front Parameters Data

This includes all the info from the TS 'pdata.hlp' file plus more info I've gathered from other official sources (including West Front!). It is an MS 'Excel 5.0/97' file.
